The Sd.Kfz. 234/1 belongs to the family of German eight-wheeled reconnaissance armored cars of the late phase of the Second World War. The car stood on a self-supporting body, all the wheels were steerable and there was a driver's station at both ends, so it reversed as fast as it drove forward. The 234/1 version carried an open-topped turret with a 2 cm automatic cannon, covered from above only by a folding wire mesh screen. The open roof made observation easier but left the crew at the mercy of the weather. Tarpaulins therefore appeared on reconnaissance cars often: over the turret opening, over stowed loads and rolled up on the fenders.
The set adds a tarpaulin in 1:35 scale to the model of the car. The number in the designation tells the individual variants within the line apart, so the same car can be built each time with the tarpaulin stowed differently and two models side by side will not look alike.
Cut the surplus material away with a sharp blade a little clear of the part and sand the rest off carefully so that the edges of the tarpaulin stay thin. Wash and degrease the part before painting. Choose the glue according to the material of the part; for parts that are not polystyrene, cyanoacrylate glue has proved itself. Canvas calls for a different approach than the sheet metal of the car: a flat base, a dark wash into the folds and a lighter dry brush along the edges. Damp stains and dusty edges will quickly turn the tarpaulin into something that really traveled on the car.
