The set is not a kit of the tank but an accessory. It replaces the gun mantlet and the long barrel from the box with one accurate assembly. The turned barrel holds a circular cross section along its whole length and has no mold seam, and on a part as long as the one the Firefly carries that shows at a glance, because an injection-molded barrel is also apt to bow slightly.
The set is cut for Dragon kits. The manufacturer also makes the same mantlet for other kits, so it is worth checking which model you have at home before you buy.
The Sherman Firefly was a British conversion of the American Sherman medium tank: the original gun was replaced by the Ordnance QF 17 pdr anti-tank weapon of 76.2 mm caliber. The longer and heavier barrel called for a reworked mounting in the turret, a differently shaped mantlet and the radio set moved into a box on the turret rear. The pairing of vehicle and gun is therefore given correctly in the name.
Try dry how the mantlet seats in the turret front; deal with any difference by reworking the plastic part. Degrease the surface and spray it with a primer. British vehicles come alive nicely with careful modulation of the base shade, chipping on the edges of the mantlet and light dusting of the lower part of the barrel. Pick out the muzzle with a dark shade rather than pure black.
The accessory is supplied unpainted. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
