This item is not a model of a tank but a detail set from the brand Elefant. It contains lengthened exhaust extensions of the kind used on Tiger I tanks in the form associated with the 502nd Heavy Tank Battalion. It was a modification carried out away from the factory, so it differed in detail from vehicle to vehicle, which the set takes into account: according to the name it contains four variants for four vehicles. It is precisely this lack of uniformity that is interesting for a modeler, because it turns an otherwise standard production machine into a particular example with a history of its own. Hollow ends of the exhausts and thin walls can be rendered considerably more faithfully in a casting than in injection-molded plastic.
The Tiger I was a German heavy tank of the Second World War with massive armor and an 88 mm gun. The exhaust pipework emerged at the rear of the hull into two vertical covers. On the Eastern Front, lengthened extensions appeared with the units, which took the fumes higher up, away from the space behind the vehicle. The rendering was not uniform, because the modifications came about in field workshops, and that is why a particular shape can only ever be documented on a particular vehicle from a period photograph.
Cut the original exhaust covers off with a scalpel or a saw and sand the area. Wash the resin parts in lukewarm soapy water, otherwise paint holds on them less well. Cut the casting blocks off, do not break them, and sand wet rather than dry because of the dust. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). The rear parts became heavily fouled in service, so layering of effects pays off here: rusty shades around the openings, a darker wash in the recesses and dry pigments at the end. Compare the order of the variants with documentation for the particular vehicle beforehand.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The model, glue and paints are not included in the package.
