Three simple stools in 1:35 scale from the Spalah brand of Ukraine. Slender legs and a seat are among the things that print well from resin but only with difficulty from injected plastic, and that is why small furniture for scenes is solved almost exclusively in this way.
A stool is a prop that settles a scene at once. It suits a field kitchen, a bench in a workshop, the room of a country cottage and an improvised seat out in the street. The three pieces need not stand together: tip one over on its side, push the second away from the table and have a figure occupy the third. Such an arrangement looks livelier than a neat row along the wall. A stool will also take the role of a stand: placed under a window or by a shelf, it explains how the crew got at things stored high up.
The legs are thin, so remove the supports with a cut, never by twisting, and when sanding support the casting with your fingers as close as possible to the place where you are working. The painting is rewarding: a light base, glazing coats of wood tones over it and finally the worn edges suggested with a thin light line. The seat tends to be more faded than the legs, whereas the bottoms of the legs pick up dust and mud.
The set comes as a raw casting, ready to be cleaned up and painted.
