About product

Decals 1:35 for the Tiger I with the markings 205

The set brings the markings of the Tiger I heavy tank with the tactical number 205 from Normandy in June 1944, as given in the name of the item. It is not a kit or a finished model but a sheet of decals in 1:35 scale with which you finish an already built and painted kit.

Before you lay the first decal

The most common mistake is laying them on matte paint. A matte coat has a microscopically broken surface, air stays in it under the carrier film and a silvery rim appears around the markings. So spray the whole area, or at least the places under the decals, with clear gloss varnish and let it cure overnight. Only then is the base ready.

Laying them over rivets, eyes and loops

Both the side of the Tiger's turret and its hull are full of projections, and it is exactly there that the quality of the work shows. Trim the decal close to the printing, leave it in lukewarm water for a few seconds and, before you slide it off, wait until it moves freely on the backing paper by itself. Adjust the position with a soft brush and blot the excess water with a tissue. Then come the softeners: the first solution belongs on the base before laying, the second on the laid decal. When the markings lie over a sharp projection, prick the bubble with the tip of a scalpel or a needle and repeat the drop of softener; the film will draw into the shape and look sprayed on.

Sealing and patina

Go over the dry decal with gloss varnish to protect it, and then unify the surface with a matte or semi-matte varnish. Only after that do washes and dust come into play. Worn markings are made with fine abrasive paper and water or by scraping spots away with the tip of a toothpick, but always only after sealing.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of the Tiger I in 1:35 scale who want a particular vehicle.
  • Modelers whose kit markings do not suit them or are damaged.
  • Those who build several vehicles and want to tell them apart.
  • Collectors of decal sheets for 1:35 scale vehicles.

The package contains decals. The kit, paints, varnishes and softeners are not part of it, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

Yes. The sheet contains only decals; the tank model itself and paints are not in the package.

Because air stayed under the carrier film. The remedy is gloss varnish as a base and a softener, which draws the film down to the surface.

Prick the bubble with a needle or the tip of a scalpel and add a drop of softener. Once dry, the film draws into the shape.

The 1:35 scale is what decides. Before sticking it down, lay the design on the model dry and check that the area fits.
