A set of replacement tracks for a model of the British Matilda infantry tank in 1:35 scale in the flat form with welded grousers added. The package holds only the track run, which replaces the parts from the base kit; the model of the vehicle is not included. This type of link is easy to recognize on a finished model, because the transverse grousers break up the otherwise smooth face of the tread and markedly change the character of the running gear. The number of links, the material and the method of joining are stated on the box.
The Matilda was a British infantry tank with thick armor and a low road speed, meant to accompany the infantry. The running gear is covered by side armor panels with cut-outs, so what stays in view of the track is chiefly the upper run and the area around the front and rear wheels. Smooth flat links had limited grip on soft and slippery ground, which is why variants with transverse grousers were used as well, since they improved traction. Welded-on grousers are among the practical modifications of this kind and for a modeler they are a clear mark distinguishing a particular form.
Assemble the track on a flat surface and try it on the running gear as you go; only that way will you get the length of the run right. Before painting, degrease the parts and spray them with primer, or the finish will not hold on the smooth surface. Paint the track separately from the hull and fit it only once the base paint is finished. The grousers are a rewarding place for weathering: on the edges a fine rub into a metallic sheen works well, while between the grousers dust and mud hold, so a natural contrast comes about. Leave the upper run slightly slack according to the type of suspension, but do not overdo the sag.
It is an accessory track set, not a model of the vehicle. The base kit, glue, paints and tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
