The Ford GAA is an American spark-ignition V8 with two overhead camshafts, developed during the Second World War as a powerplant for tanks. It was used above all in the variants of the Sherman medium tank designated M4A3. The engine is typified by its bulky block construction, prominent cylinder heads, camshaft covers and extensive cooling and intake fittings, which give the model a broken-up shape.

Building and painting tips

A dry brush brings out the edges and a dark wash pulls out the valve gear and the bolts. Wiring can be suggested with thin wire or copper strand. If you are placing the engine in a vehicle, check the height and width of the block against the engine compartment dry before you glue anything permanently.
