Yahu Models 1:35 URAL-4320 is a photo-etched detailing set for a model of this off-road truck. It replaces coarse plastic parts with thin metal photo-etched brass.

This is not a kit of a vehicle but an addition for refining a finished model. The set holds parts etched from thin metal sheet which, unlike injection plastic, can faithfully capture the true thickness of sheet metal covers, grilles, brackets and other small elements. On trucks in particular the difference is marked, because the model has a great many visible details which in plastic necessarily have to be made thicker because of the mold.
The Ural-4320 is an off-road truck with drive to all axles, built in the Soviet Union and later in Russia. It came about as a military carrier of cargo and of mounted systems for use in difficult terrain and harsh climates. It also spread widely in the civilian sector, especially in forestry, the power industry and construction. It is precisely this combination of military and civilian use that makes the vehicle a rewarding subject for dioramas and for models of current equipment.
Cut the photo-etched parts off the fret with a sharp scalpel on a hard surface rather than with nippers, so that they do not bend. Use a photo-etch bender for the bends, or at least two blades. They are glued with cyanoacrylate, and on larger surfaces the gel consistency proves itself, as it allows time to set the part in place. Degrease the sheet before painting and lay on a primer intended for metal, otherwise the paint will not hold on the smooth surface. On a military version it pays to fit the photo-etched parts before the muddy finish, so that pigments and washes bed the metal into the whole and it does not look like a foreign element.
