About product

Wheel set for the Chevrolet G7107 (G-506), early tread type, 1:35, DEF Model

A resin wheel set for the American 1.5-ton 4x4 truck of the G-506 group, produced by Chevrolet under the designation G7107, in 1:35 scale. It is neither a kit of the vehicle nor a finished model; it is an accessory with which you replace the plastic wheels supplied in the base kit. The tires carry the early type tread pattern, and it is the tread that sets this set apart from the sister set with the general type tread.

Why resin wheels

A casting captures the structure of the tread, the lettering on the side of the tire and the breakdown of the rim more sharply than a split plastic mold can, and above all without the parting line in the middle of the tread that has to be laboriously sanded away on a plastic wheel. The wheel is moreover cast with a weighted deformation: at the point where it rests on the road the tire is flattened and the side slightly bulged, as if a loaded vehicle were standing on the wheel. The model then really stands on its base and stops coming across as hovering.

The real subject

The trucks of the G-506 group were among the most widespread American 1.5-ton vehicles of the Second World War. They served as transport and workshop chassis with American units and under Allied deliveries they reached other armies too, where among other things they served as carriers of rocket launchers. The individual batches differed in the pattern of the tires as well, so the choice of tread is a way of anchoring a model in time.

Usage tips

First wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water, because mold release from the mold stays on them, and neither primer nor paint will hold over it. Cut the casting block off with a thin saw or a knife, level the rest with a file and sand preferably wet and with protection for your airways. Glue resin with cyanoacrylate glue, because ordinary cement for plastic does not act on it. Paint the rim and the tread separately and at the end add dust and mud pigments into the pattern of the tread.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers building American trucks in 1:35 scale
  • Builders of dioramas where the vehicle is seen from close up and the wheels are in the foreground
  • Anyone interested in the early form of the vehicle
  • Those who want to avoid sanding the parting line on plastic tires

The set is an accessory for a plastic kit, not a model in its own right. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.

In the tread pattern of the tires. This set has the early type, the sister set the general type. Choose according to the period and the form you are building.

First wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water because of the mold release from the mold, cut the casting block off and level the surface. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue, because ordinary cement for plastic does not dissolve resin.

Yes, the set is supplied unpainted. We recommend a base primer and painting the rim and the tread separately.
