MTVR is the abbreviation for the medium tactical vehicle replacement, with which the US Marine Corps replaced its older five-ton trucks from the turn of the millennium. The Mk.23 version is the basic flatbed form with drive on all three axles. The vehicle was designed from the start for off-road use rather than for the road: it has independent suspension on all wheels with a lot of travel, central tire inflation and a high-set cargo bed, so it gets to places an ordinary truck will not reach. That is exactly why it was counted on for supplying units in places without hard roads, and why it appears in photographs from Iraq and from Afghanistan, often with an armored cab added and with armament on the roof. The tall cab, the massive wheels and the long load area make it a rewarding subject that will not get lost on a shelf.
Large trucks look empty without cargo and without detail on the cab, because their dimensions in themselves are not what a viewer reads. A conversion set helps a model of this type gain a particular face and sets it into a certain period and deployment. It suits larger dioramas with a column or a supply point and combines well with figures in 1:35.
