This set of figures in 1:35 scale represents the crew of the Tiger heavy tank in Waffen-SS markings. It is sold on its own, without the vehicle, and is intended to complete a finished model or a diorama. The exact contents of the package and the number of figures are stated on the box of the set.
The crew as part of the composition
A heavy tank is impressive in a display case on its own, but only figures in the hatches or around the hull show the true proportions of the machine. A crew set is therefore one of the most effective accessories you can get for a tank model.
The Tiger was a German heavy tank deployed from 1942. Its crew consisted of a commander, a gunner, a loader, a driver and a radio operator, with the commander and the loader having their own hatches in the turret, which is why they are shown most often. Tank crews wore a one-piece or two-piece working uniform and a side cap or a peaked cap; their field equipment was markedly simpler than the infantry's, because there was no room in the hull for bulky gear. It is worth holding on to that difference while painting, so that the figures match their role.
Wash the figures first in lukewarm water with a drop of dish soap and let them dry out. Sand down the parting lines and the leftovers from the mold. Choose the glue according to the material of the casting: cyanoacrylate for resin, the classic kind for plastic.
With figures for hatches, first dry-fit how the person sits in the turret of your model. Hatches differ from kit to kit and a little sanding of the lower part of the torso is quite usual. Paint from the primer through the base tone of the uniform to the shadows and highlights, and leave the face and hands until the end. A matte varnish will even out the surface at the finish.
The set is supplied unpainted. The tank model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
