The set holds separate, interlocking Winterketten track links in 1:35 scale. It is an accessory, not a model of a vehicle: it replaces the tracks from the box and stays movable once assembled, so it beds faithfully over the wheels and takes on the right sag of the upper run of the track. The Winterketten are widened links used above all on the Eastern Front, which lowered the ground pressure on snow and muddy terrain.
The links are built for the running gear of the Pz.Kpfw. III and IV series and of the StuG III and StuG IV self-propelled guns derived from them. A realistic link-by-link track lifts the impression of a finished model markedly over rubber band tracks.
Separate the links from the sprues and clean up the sprue gate marks. Assemble the track link by link before varnishing; the movability makes it easier to bed it around the drive sprocket and the idler wheel and to get a natural sag. We recommend a dark base, then metal rubbing on the contact faces and finally earthy pigments and mud for a winter scene.
The set is an accessory to a plastic model. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
