A photo-etched set from Voyager Model brings the side armor plates, the so-called Schürzen, for a model of the German Tiger II heavy tank in 1:35 scale, including their hangers. It is not a kit of the vehicle but an accessory for a model you already have. Brass sheet captures the thickness and the shape of the edges substantially better than a plastic molding. The set is cut for the Hobby Boss 84530 kit.
The Tiger II, also called the Königstiger, was a German heavy tank of the closing stage of the Second World War. It combined heavily sloped frontal armor with a long-barreled 88 mm gun. The high weight showed in high consumption and in demands on the transmission and on transport. The thin plates hung on the sides of the hull were to serve a protective function against hits aimed at the running gear and the sides.
With long photo-etched parts the main enemy is rippling. Before you start bending, lay the part on a glass plate and check that it touches down over the whole area; level out any dishing from production by running a flat surface smoothed with a hard roller over it. Always take the bends along the whole length at once, not in sections. When gluing, fix one end first, align the part against the hull and only then glue the rest. Spot gluing in small drops gives you time for correction and does not fill the fine relief of the hangers.
The set is an accessory, not a model. It does not hold the kit of the vehicle, glue or paints.
