Hasegawa has treated the first generation of the MR2 as an injection-molded kit with decals and rubber tires. The box aims at the special black edition of 1986, which the carmaker offered only briefly and in small numbers. According to the instructions the roof can be built in the ordinary form as well as with a glazed section.
The designation AW11 belongs to the very first MR2. It was a small two-seater with the engine mounted transversely ahead of the rear axle, with a sharply cut body and pop-up headlights. Low weight and a balanced distribution of mass made it a popular car in the corners and an affordable way into the world of mid-engined coupes. The special black edition stood out by its dark finish with gold trim.
A black body is merciless toward every unevenness, so sand the surfaces down thoroughly before the finish and check them against a sharp light. The gold lines and lettering are handled by decals, the additional areas then with a brush and a metallic paint. Think the pop-up headlights through in advance, because the position of the covers sets the whole expression of the model. Finish painting the interior before you close the body.
