A detail set in 1:35 scale from the manufacturer Voyager Model which, according to the name, covers three production forms of the German heavy tank Tiger I at once: the early, the middle and the late one. It is an accessory to a plastic model, not a kit of the vehicle. Given the coverage, reckon with a markedly larger extent than ordinary single-fret photo-etched sets have; the exact contents of the package are stated in the manufacturer's instructions.
The Tiger I carried an 88 mm gun and was among the heaviest machines of its day. During production it went through a row of modifications, so the early, middle and late vehicles differ in the commander's cupola, the form of the road wheels, the arrangement of the exhausts, the tools on the hull and the equipment at the rear. That is precisely why detail sets are usually made separately for each form, and a set covering all three is an exception that makes sense above all to someone who builds several Tigers or wants to pick a particular machine only once period photographs are in hand.
With a set this extensive, preparation is the most important thing. First choose from the instructions which form you are building and put the parts for the other variants aside, so that you do not use them by mistake. Leave the frets in their wrapper and cut out only what you need at the moment. The work is the same as with smaller sets: a cut with a scalpel, sanding the burrs, degreasing with alcohol, a bend in a bending tool and gluing with cyanoacrylate glue. For large plates choose the gel variety, which gives you time to align them. Apply a primer to the metal before painting. Build in sub-assemblies, so that finished parts are not in the way of further assembly.
