About product

The real subject

Jiri Hanzelka and Miroslav Zikmund are among the best-known Czechoslovak travelers. They became famous through their first expedition in the years 1947 to 1950, on which they crossed Africa and South America with a Tatra 87 car and brought home reports, photographs and films. The second journey led through Asia and Oceania in the years 1959 to 1964 and was made with Tatra 805 vehicles. Both expeditions were at once travelogues and technical trials: the vehicles were tested in conditions that nobody could have simulated on European roads, and the journeys produced books that whole generations read.

What the set offers

The set captures both travelers in 1:35 scale in their form from the second expedition. It will find a use with a display-case model of an expedition vehicle and in a diorama, where the figures give the scene its scale and action: a stop by the road, a repair of the vehicle, a meeting with local people.

  • Figures of the travelers Zikmund and Hanzelka in 1:35 scale
  • The subject of the second expedition of the years 1959 to 1964 through Asia and Oceania
  • Suitable for models of expedition and utility vehicles
  • Usable in a diorama and for display on their own

Building and painting tips

Cut the surplus material off with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the remainder carefully, so that the folds of the clothing are preserved. Before painting, wash and degrease the figures, otherwise the paint holds badly on the smooth surface. Choose the glue according to the material of the parts. Paint the faces at the end and in several coats: a basic tone, a darker shade into the eye sockets and under the chin, a lighter one on the forehead and the cheekbones. Civilian clothing will take faded, unsaturated mixed shades; dust from the road on the boots and trouser legs will do the scene more good than a perfectly clean figure.

Who it is for

For collectors with a tie to the history of Czechoslovak travel and for modelers who build dioramas in 1:35 scale. Paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
