A photo-etched set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard in 1:350 scale, the fourth part of a multipart series of accessories for the plastic model of the American aircraft carrier CVN-65 Enterprise. Eduard divides large ship models into several separate sets, because one fret would not cover a whole hull. Thin metal sheet makes it possible to render features that cannot be cast in injection-molded plastic, that is fine structures in scale thickness which catch the eye at once on a model in a large scale. The ship itself is not included in the package.
USS Enterprise, with the hull designation CVN-65, was the first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier in the world. She entered service in 1961, served for over fifty years and, at over three hundred meters long, was among the longest warships ever built. Her most distinctive feature was the original boxy island superstructure with its flat radar arrays. During a long career she went through several refits that markedly changed the appearance of the island superstructure and the equipment of the flight deck, so the look of the ship differs according to the period you choose.
Fine ship photo-etch is among the most demanding work in modeling. Separate the parts with a scalpel on a hard surface, bend them in a bending tool and fix them with cyanoacrylate glue in minute drops applied with a pin. Glue longer assemblies on gradually, piece by piece, so that they do not buckle. Degrease the metal and apply a primer before painting, otherwise the paint will not hold. Paint with an airbrush in thin coats rather than otherwise, so that the fine structure does not clog up. Fit the set from the bottom upwards and protect the finished parts from knocks.
The package holds photo-etched parts only. The ship model, glue and paints are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
