The 1:350 HMS Kent Wooden Deck accessory replaces the molded surface of a model of the British heavy cruiser with an area showing the grain of deck planks.
Responsibility details are not available.
Interwar British cruisers tended to have a long forward deck that is interrupted by almost nothing except the turrets and the anchor equipment. The difference between smooth plastic and an area with the grain of wood is therefore particularly easy to see on this type. The accessory counts on your having the base model already built. In this size the deck moreover forms a substantial part of the visible area of the finished piece.
HMS Kent was launched in 1926 as one of the heavy cruisers of the County class, that is of the large ships with a high freeboard built for patrol service in the remote waters of the empire. During the Second World War she served in the South Atlantic, in the Mediterranean and later escorted convoys on the northern route to the Soviet Union. The characteristic marks of the class were three tall funnels and eight main guns of eight inches. After the war no new service came and the vessel ended up in the yard to be broken up.
Check that the moldings and lugs that would keep the new area from seating have been removed from the model. Then work part by part, laying each one on first and watching whether it seats around the anchor fittings and the bases of the turrets. A darker glaze rubbed into the seams will finally bring out the grain without the loss of the clear tone of the wood.
