A large injection-molded plastic model of the Italian heavy cruiser Zara in 1:350 scale from Trumpeter. It is an extensive ship kit with a one-piece hull, a finely rendered deck with imitation wood planking and rich superstructures. The box holds a photo-etched sheet, a name plate and a stand for display, plus the ship's floatplanes and decals, so a striking display model of a large warship can be built straight from the box.
Zara was the lead ship of the class of the same name of Italian heavy cruisers of the interwar period, built to the limits of the Washington Naval Treaty. She carried her main armament of 203 mm guns in twin turrets and was marked by heavy armor at the cost of speed. During the Second World War she operated in the Mediterranean and was sunk in the night action off Cape Matapan in March 1941, when British battleships surprised the Italian force at close range.
Decide whether you will build the ship with the full hull on the stand or only at the waterline. Glue the parts with cement for plastic, and glue the fine photo-etched items, the railings and the fittings, with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Apply a primer before painting; the deck with its wood pattern and the light Italian hull finish come to life with shading and a subtle wash in the recesses. Add the rigging with fine thread at the very end.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
