An injection-molded plastic kit of a warship in 1:350 scale from the manufacturer Trumpeter. The subject is a guided missile destroyer of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force. In 1:350 scale it is a large model with readily legible detail of the superstructure, which is at the same time a rewarding base for the addition of etched railings and more accurate antennas.
The Kirishima belongs to the Kongo class, that is, to the large guided missile destroyers of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force, which come out of the American concept of ships with the Aegis combat system. A characteristic feature is the massive superstructure with the flat panels of a phased array radar and the vertical launching cells placed both forward and aft. Ships of this class carry out the tasks of air and missile defense of a formation above all and are among the largest surface units of their country.
If the kit offers both variants of the hull, decide at the very beginning whether you will build the model with the full hull on a stand or in the waterline configuration set into the surface of a diorama, as both the order of the work and the way of mounting depend on that. Paint the deck separately from the sides of the hull and mask the transitions with tape. Glue the fine parts, such as the masts, the antennas and the radar panels, right at the very end, so that they do not break off during handling; add any etched railings after the deck has been painted. A restrained dark wash will bring the detail of the superstructure out, and at the end fine mapping of traces of rust and of runs by the anchors and the discharge openings comes in useful.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
