A plastic kit of the American escort carrier USS Sangamon (CVE-26) in 1:350 scale from Trumpeter. It is a new tool with a split deck and finely rendered superstructures; the finished model reaches a length of around 48 cm.
USS Sangamon was the lead ship of the class of escort carriers of the same name, which came about by conversion from fast fleet oilers. Their larger hull let them carry more aircraft than the smaller escort carriers, and they were the only ones of this category to operate dive bombers as well. Sangamon took part in the fighting in the Pacific and earned a string of battle stars for her service.
Decide in advance between the full hull with a stand and the waterline version. It is best to spray the flight deck and the hull with an airbrush and then bring out the panels with a wash and a dry brush. Glue the fine parts and any photo-etched additions with cyanoacrylate glue.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
