Plastic kit of the American aircraft carrier USS Langley CV-1 in 1:350 scale from Trumpeter.
Responsibility details are not available.
This injection-molded plastic kit in 1:350 scale from Trumpeter portrays USS Langley (CV-1), the very first aircraft carrier of the US Navy. It is a new mold with a high part count; the package holds a one-piece hull, a well worked out flight and hangar deck, a set of photo-etched parts, a metal anchor chain and several period carrier aircraft, with decals for the ship and for the aircraft.
USS Langley came about through the conversion of the collier USS Jupiter. The conversion began after the First World War and in 1922 the ship was commissioned as CV-1, the first aircraft carrier of the US Navy. She served as a floating test and training platform on which the US Navy first mastered take-offs and landings on a deck in practice and laid the foundations of its carrier aviation. In the 1930s she was converted into a seaplane tender (AV-3) and during the Second World War, in 1942, she was sunk by Japanese aircraft while ferrying fighters to Southeast Asia.
The model can be built with the full hull on a stand, or shortened to a waterline form down to the surface. Bond the fine photo-etched railings and deck details with super glue (cyanoacrylate) and the plastic parts with thin liquid cement. Apply a primer before using an airbrush. Paint the superstructures, the cranes and the large flight deck section by section; for a faithful look, highlighting the details with a wash and fine weathering into the drainage streaks on the sides of the hull work well.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
