An injection-molded plastic kit of the American battleship USS North Carolina from the manufacturer Trumpeter in 1:350 scale. The hull is split and allows the build of a full hull as well as a waterline version. The kit offers rotating turrets with 406 mm (16 inch) guns as well as the secondary 127 mm batteries, a finely shaped command superstructure, boats, 40 mm anti-aircraft guns, catapults, cranes and a shipboard aircraft. The decals provide legible markings. It is one of the most popular large ships in this scale.
USS North Carolina was the lead ship of the class of fast battleships of the same name and one of the first modern American battleships of the Second World War. She combined strong armor protection, a main caliber of 406 mm and a high speed, thanks to which she could operate alongside the fast aircraft carriers in the Pacific. She went through a number of combat deployments and earned many battle stars. Today she is preserved as a museum ship.
Decide beforehand between the full hull and the waterline. The large areas of the deck and the hull call for careful sanding of the joints and for gluing with a thin cement for plastic. The model all but calls for extra photo-etched railings, ladders and radars, which are not included in the package and which will lift the finished model. Paint with an airbrush: period American naval camouflage in shades of gray works well. Fine accenting of the panels, stippling and discreet soot marks around the gun muzzles will give the large deck depth. Lay the decals over a gloss varnish.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
