ATOM Metallic Colors Set, a set of metallic shades

A set from the ATOM range, which AMMO of Mig Jimenez runs. Metallic shades differ from ordinary paints in that besides the pigment they carry fine reflective particles: the surface then does not have a single color but changes with the angle of view and with where the light falls on the model. That is exactly why they are worked differently from flat covering tones.

Where you will use metallic paints

• the metal surfaces of vehicles, machinery parts and mechanisms
• exhaust and heat-stressed parts, where the tone breaks into another shade
• worn edges, scuffs and places where bare metal shows through
• accessories and gear on which metal should be recognizable at first glance
• decorative trims and frames on models of road cars

How to handle metallic paints

The reflective particles settle to the bottom faster than ordinary pigment, so stir the contents thoroughly and stir them again between the individual stages of work. A metallic surface comes out best over a smooth base; on a rough surface the reflections are broken up and the effect disappears. Reckon with metallic paints being harder to overspray and harder to mask, so place them rather at the end of the painting procedure and not at its beginning.
