The Porsche 550 Spyder was the first car of the marque designed from the beginning for racing. The open light body hid in the middle of the frame a four-cylinder with a valvetrain driven by four camshafts, which turned high revs at a small displacement. Thanks to its low weight the 550 was able to beat substantially more powerful rivals in hill climb and endurance events in the 1950s and earned the reputation of a conqueror of big cars. The race numbers and the small lettering are an essential part of the appearance with this subject, because nothing else decorates the otherwise plain body.
For collectors of classic sports cars of the 1950s and for anyone who builds a historic Porsche and wants to set its appearance apart from the basic version from the box. It will find a use in building a period scene from a circuit as well, where a car is to look ready for the start.
