A set of pre-cut masking templates for the window frames of a model of the first-generation BMW M3 in 1:24 scale. It is not a kit and not decals but an accessory for the build, which masks the glass while the black frames and seals are sprayed. The masks are cut to the shape of a particular model, so laborious cutting of strips by eye falls away.
Window frames are a classic place on car models where the quality of a build shows. A frame painted by hand has an uneven width and a wavy edge, which the eye notices before any other detail. A precise mask gives a straight edge along its whole length and keeps the width of the band on curved glass. On a car that is meant to look like a production machine, that is the difference between a model and a toy.
Wash and degrease the glass, as fingerprints show through under a mask. Lay the mask down with dry tweezers and press the edge with a blunt tip so that paint does not creep under it. Spray in several thin coats. Take the mask off shortly after it has dried and pull it at an angle along the surface. Glue the clear parts into the body only at the end, as ordinary plastic cement fogs them.
The masks are supplied on their own; paints and a model are not included in the package.
