1:24 Speedline snow wheels set for Lancia Delta S4

Speedline snow wheels for the Lancia Delta S4 in 1:24 scale

The 1:24 Speedline snow wheels set for Lancia Delta S4 offers a wheel set for winter conditions for a model of the Lancia Delta S4 in 1:24 scale. The name describes it as a snow wheels set, that is the version meant for snow. Neither the dimensions nor the number of pieces follow from it.

Why snow called for something different

On snow-covered and icy special stages the crews did not rely on wide rubber. On the contrary, a narrower tire cut through the layer of snow better, down to the firm surface, and studs secured grip on ice. The rim matched that, differing from the asphalt set in both width and depth of dish. Winter events therefore looked nothing like the Italian asphalt stages, and a model on snow wheels tells the viewer a different story than the same car on a summer set. In building terms it is also the simplest way to give two otherwise identical models a different character and stand them side by side in a display case.

Advice on painting the winter version

• Suggest snow on the wheels with a light pigment at the edges of the spokes, not over the whole surface.
• Lay the salt film on the underside in a thin coat so the shade beneath shows through.
• Keep the tire sidewall matte and cold, as warm brown tones do not belong here.
• Dirty the insides of the fenders more than the outside, because that is where slush builds up most.
• Keep a winter build in a cooler range of colors, or the impression falls apart.

Who the set suits

It will serve builders who want to place their Delta S4 in a winter event, and modelers drawn to the patina of snow, slush and salt. It is also a good choice for diorama scenes with the car caught on a snow-covered stretch.
