Tiny springs in 1:12 scale with which a model imitates the real ones that secure the joints of exhaust pipework on racing machines. The spring has its reason there: an exhaust expands as it heats up, so the joints must not be bolted up solid, and a spring holds a joint while letting it work. On a model it is a small thing, but one that tells at once that the builder has seen the real machine and not just the instructions.
The springs are tiny and jump away while being handled, so work with tweezers and over a mat. They are fitted to the model only after the exhaust has been painted, or paint will get into the coils and the spring will lose its definition. They are held by a drop of super glue at each end. The spring itself suits a dark metallic shade with a hint of heat discoloration, that is, with a shift toward blue-violet around the joint. The longer version suits joints of larger diameter and places where a spring bridges a greater distance.
The set is an accessory, not a kit. The model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
