The twenty-second volume of the Ultra Detail Guide series from the publisher Komakai is devoted to the McLaren Honda MP4/4 and serves as a detailed photographic reference while building a model. The volumes in the series come out in A5 format with color detail shots.
The MP4/4 holds a standing in Formula 1 that no other car has: of the sixteen Grands Prix of the 1988 season it won fifteen. It had a flat, low silhouette, a turbocharged six-cylinder Honda V engine and a pair of drivers in Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost. Senna took the first of his three titles in it. The car finished off the podium only twice, and of thirty-two starts it failed to finish five times. For a modeler it is a subject where the accuracy of the white and red paint scheme and the cleanness of the shape are what count.
For modelers of the single-seaters of the eighties and for owners of MP4/4 kits, of which a number have come out in several scales. A collector looking for picture documentation of the turbocharged era will appreciate it too.
