318i White is the white of the BMW 318i touring car with which the brand went for titles in the two-liter circuit class of the 1990s.
Responsibility details are not available.
The shade is tied to the circuit BMW 318i of the E36 generation. On these cars white formed the main area of the body, across which ran the narrow colored stripes of the motorsport division and the logos of the partners.
At the start of the 1990s the touring championships turned to four-door cars with a two-liter engine without forced induction. It was a class in which chassis preparation and the driver's work counted for more than raw power, and it became famous for the density of its battles and the hardness of its contacts. The Munich brand put the 318i into it and in 1993 took the title in the British Touring Car Championship with it straight away. The British series was then among the most watched circuit events in Europe and modeling its cars remains in steady demand to this day. The machines were built from ordinary production bodies, and that made it easy for spectators to form a personal attachment to them.
It is aimed at touring car modelers for whom a white from a general palette is not enough and who want a shade tied to one particular line. On cars where the colored livery covers only a fraction of the area, it is the white underneath that carries the whole impression and its tone cannot be hidden. Light areas are also the part of any livery on which a poorly prepared surface shows first. On the circuit subject the white extended to the mirrors, the trim strips and the window frames, so it comes into its own on small parts as much as on a large area.
