A cup with a volume of 25 ml with measuring marks on the wall. It serves for mixing a shade or a two-part lacquer outside the bottle, in the amount you actually need.

Why mix outside the bottle

Once you start thinning straight in the bottle, the rest of your stock will never be in its original state again and the next spray job will come out differently. The cup removes that risk: you measure out only the dose for one body, the rest of the paint stays untouched, and the marked walls also let you watch how the paint runs down, which is the quickest way to judge whether the consistency is right for spraying. It also pays off when tinting, where you add drops of another color to a base shade and need to judge the result before you fill the airbrush with it.

How to use it

• Test a tinted shade on an offcut of plastic, not straight on the bodywork.
• Pour the components to the marks and write the ratio down for the next batch.
• Judge the consistency by the way the mixture runs down the wall of the cup.
• With two-part lacquers, measure the hardener out after the lacquer has been poured, not the other way round.
• Rinse the cup out after work, or throw it away once the residue has dried.
