Intense White

The color

A white shade from the Number 5 brand, listed under the designation Intense White. It belongs to the part of the range where the paints do not carry the name of a particular car but a plain description of the shade, so it is not tied to a single subject. White is universal on a model: bodies, racing stripes, numbers and any surface that is meant to look fresh and clean.

White and coverage

White is one of the shades that take longest to build. On dark plastic, on filler and on sanded areas it builds up unevenly and the ground shows through even after several coats. So proceed the opposite way to what impatience suggests: first unify the surface with a light primer and only then build the white up in thin coats. There will be more coats than with a dark shade, but the result will be smooth and free of patches.

How to apply the paint

Shake the container thoroughly before use and stir the contents. Apply several thin coats and let the surface flash off between them; a heavy application floods the definition of the gaps and gathers into runs at the edges. Which thinner to use and in what ratio is given in the manufacturer's instructions; a thinner from elsewhere will curdle the paint. With white, watch out for cleanliness: every speck of dust and every residue of another paint in the airbrush shows on a light surface, so work in a dust-free space and keep the airbrush flushed out.
