1:100 FCM 36 is a resin kit of the French light tank with a faceted welded hull and a diesel engine, offered by Zebrano.
Responsibility details are not available.
The kit captures one of the most remarkable French tanks of the Second World War. It is cast in resin in the small 1:100 scale, so it suits a display case as well as a gaming surface, where whole units of vehicles are handled. Zebrano builds this range on one-piece hulls with details added on.
The tank was built by the Forges et Chantiers de la Méditerranée shipyards and between 1938 and 1939 a hundred of them were made. The designers came up with a shape nobody else had at the time: welded plates 40 mm thick put together into a faceted pyramid in which almost no surface stands at a right angle. The vehicle was the only French tank of its day with a diesel engine, which gave it an unusually long range. The crew consisted of two men and the armament was a short 37 mm gun with a machine gun alongside. In May 1940 two battalions of these vehicles took part in the counterattack at Sedan and suffered heavy losses; the Germans then rebuilt thirty-seven captured vehicles into tank destroyers and self-propelled guns.
The faceted hull is all edges, so it pays to choose a painting method that brings them out. After the primer, move to a lighter tone from above so that the more horizontal surfaces come forward, and leave the lower slopes darker. The engraving of the welds is fine and clogs easily, so apply the paint in thin layers. Fill the chamfer left after cutting off the casting block with a drop of cyanoacrylate with filler; once dry it sands better than putty.
The package contains separate castings without paint; assembly and painting are up to the modeler.
