The Curtiss P-40N was the last and most numerously built version of the Warhawk. It came about by lightening the airframe and by an effort to improve the rate of climb; the changes included a cut-down spine behind the cockpit and new glazing, which improved the pilot's view to the rear. Power came from an Allison V-1710 V12 engine. It is precisely because of the better glazing that more of the cockpit is visible on the model than on earlier versions, and in 1:32 scale every detail of the interior counts.
The set brings colored three-dimensional decals printed on a decal backing paper, with a raised relief. They take the place of hand painting the instrument panel, side walls and consoles and add crisp instrument markings. The parts are shaped for the parts of the Trumpeter kit in 1:32 scale.
Quinta Studio decals of the QD line are applied the wet way. Cut the part from the sheet, leave it for about fifteen seconds in lukewarm water and slide it off the backing paper into place. They have no adhesive layer of their own and hold reliably on a gloss coat, so paint the surface first, run a coat of Future, Klear or Tamiya X-22 over it and let it dry; on broken areas a drop of cyanoacrylate glue helps. Do not use a decal softener or a decal fixer, as the chemicals attack the printed resin. In a large scale the parts are fairly big, so slide them on from one edge and press them down gradually so that no air stays underneath. Dry-fit the finished interior before you glue the fuselage.
The set suits a modeler building a P-40N with the canopy slid back who wants to finish the interior without painting the small instruments. The package contains the decals; the kit, paints and glue are not part of it, unless stated otherwise.
