I-16 Type 10/17 - 3D colored interior 1:32 (Quinta Studio)

A set of colored 3D decals from Quinta Studio for detailing the cockpit of a model of the Soviet Polikarpov I-16 fighter in the Type 10 and Type 17 versions. These are full-color, raised elements printed on backing decal paper, off which they slide into place after a short dip. This is not a photo-etched or resin set but finished colored 3D detail. The target kit is ICM.

The real subject

The Polikarpov I-16 was a Soviet monoplane fighter of the 1930s, one of the first production fighters with retractable landing gear. The Type 10 and Type 17 versions differed in armament; the Type 17 carried a heavier combination of machine guns and cannon. The open cockpit with its instrument panel and seat is a prominent feature, which this set captures faithfully.

Use

• cut the individual parts out of the sheet and leave them in lukewarm water for about fifteen seconds
• slide the element off the backing paper onto the plastic part of the cockpit; it conforms well to the curved shapes of the panels and side walls
• it has no adhesive layer of its own, it holds on gloss varnish (Future, Klear, Tamiya X-22), and on intricate spots a drop of cyanoacrylate glue helps
• do not use a decal softener or a decal fixer, as the chemicals attack the printed resin

The 3D decals are an accessory for a model; the aircraft model itself, the paints, the varnish and the glue are not included in the package.
