I-16 Type 24/28 - 3D colored interior 1:32 (Quinta Studio)

A set of colored 3D decals from Quinta Studio for detailing the cockpit of a model of the Soviet Polikarpov I-16 fighter in the Type 24 and Type 28 versions. These are full-color, raised parts printed on a decal backing paper, from which they slide into place after a brief soak. It is not a photo-etched or resin set but finished colored 3D detail. The set is intended for the ICM kit.

The real subject

The Polikarpov I-16 was a Soviet monoplane fighter with retractable landing gear. The later Type 24 and Type 28 versions received a more powerful engine and further strengthening of the structure and armament, and they stayed in combat into the first years of the war on the Eastern Front. The cockpit with its instrument panel and seat is a prominent feature that this set captures faithfully.

Use

• cut the individual parts from the sheet and leave them for about fifteen seconds in lukewarm water
• slide the part off the backing paper onto the plastic cockpit part; it conforms well to the rounded shapes of panels and side walls
• it has no adhesive layer of its own and holds on a gloss coat (Future, Klear, Tamiya X-22); on broken areas a drop of cyanoacrylate glue helps
• do not use a decal softener or a decal fixer, as the chemicals attack the printed resin

The 3D decals are an accessory to a model; the aircraft model itself, paints, varnish and glue are not included in the package.
