This is not an aircraft kit but a modeling aid. The set contains shaped plugs of springy foam that fill the wheel bays of a model exactly and close them for the duration of spraying. It is shaped to the bays of one particular kit: the F-4 Phantom from Hasegawa in 1:72 scale.
A wheel bay is a deep, irregular cavity that a modeler paints and details first — and then has to protect from the paint meant for the outside of the model. In 1:72 scale the whole problem is even more unpleasant: the bays are small, hard to reach, and stuffing tape or cotton wool into them so that they really seal is a job of long minutes with an uncertain outcome. A plug is simply put into the bay, the model is sprayed, and once dry the plug is taken out. The springy foam compresses in the opening, seats itself against the edges and holds without glue — paint does not run in and the painted interior stays untouched. The bay is also protected during sanding and against dust and sanding slurry.
The plugs are shaped to the bay of one particular kit, so the individual sets are not interchangeable. This one is intended for Hasegawa in 1:72 scale. For the Phantom, Omask also makes other sets in 1:48, for example for the Academy or Meng kits — and those naturally will not fit a model in 1:72. So check the scale and the maker of your kit before buying.
The F-4 Phantom II is an American two-seat, twin-engine multi-role fighter and one of the most widespread combat aircraft of the Cold War. It served with the Air Force, the Navy and the Marine Corps and with a number of other countries as well. Its recognition features are the upswept wingtips and the drooped tailplanes. The Phantom was made in many versions for the Navy and for the Air Force; a set of plugs, though, follows not the version of the aircraft but the shape of the bays of a particular kit.
This is not a model or parts of a model — it is a masking aid bought separately. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
