The Art Scale 1:32 double-sided masking set for the F-86K Sabre Dog from the Kitty Hawk kit brings parts for covering the glazing from both sides.
Responsibility details are not available.
The item is an aid for painting the Kitty Hawk kit, not a model of the machine. The double-sided variant holds parts not only for the outer surface of the glazing but for its inner side as well. That comes in useful where the frame is painted from inside the cabin too and where bare plastic would otherwise be visible through the glass.
At large scales the cabin is looked into from close up. If the inner frame is left unpainted, the canopy comes across as a transparent shell and the whole pilot space loses its depth. Painting it from inside adds the impression of a real structure and at the same time plays down the glued joint showing through.
The F-86K version came about for the needs of the European allies and it differed from the interceptors of American production in its gun armament and in a modified fire control system. It lasted in service into the nineteen seventies, when supersonic types replaced it. The fuselage with its characteristic rounded nose, where the radar was moved to, is the recognition feature of this whole branch.
Work part by part and do not hurry; the inner parts are fitted before the canopy is joined to the fuselage. Press the transitions on the convex surfaces down with a soft tool that has no sharp tip. Apply the paint in several thin coats and let the surface air out between them. Once the parts are off, check the edges against the light.
