A fine abrasive of 1000 grit in the form designated ultra fine. It serves for the finishing sanding of a surface before painting.
Responsibility details are not available.
The number gives the coarseness of the abrasive: the higher it is, the smaller the grain and the finer the trace on the surface. 1000 grit no longer belongs to the shaping steps but to the finishing ones. It removes almost no material, yet it evens out the scratches left by coarser sanding and leaves the surface smooth enough that every movement of the hand does not show on it. The description ultra fine confirms that position.
It is used at the end of a sanding sequence, that is where the shape is already finished and only the surface is at stake. Typically after filler has been leveled and joints sanded down, before a base coat is applied, or between individual coats, when a grain of dust or a small irregularity has to be refined without disturbing the shape of the edge beneath it.
Always work from a coarser grain to a finer one; a skipped step shows in that the fine abrasive merely polishes the earlier scratches instead of leveling them. Work in short strokes in one direction and keep the pressure light, as the grain does the work, not force. Keep removing the sanding dust, or it will get under the abrasive and make scratches. If the form allows wet sanding, the area stays cleaner and the surface comes out smoother. Wash and degrease the part before painting.
For modelers who fine-tune a surface before spraying and want an area free of visible traces of coarser sanding.
