The set covers the deck areas of the kit of the American battleship USS Missouri Academy 14401 in 1:400 scale and keeps the natural tone of the wood. For the same base model there is also a sister version in blue toning, so you can choose according to which period of the ship's service you want to capture. The large continuous areas of the main deck are the most conspicuous element on vessels of this class, so a change of the surface shows immediately.
Missouri is the third unit of the Iowa class and entered service in 1944. On September 2, 1945 the Japanese surrender was signed on her deck in Tokyo Bay. The ship also took part in the war in Korea, in the 1980s she went through an extensive modernization and she last fired in 1991 in the Persian Gulf. Today she is a museum vessel at Pearl Harbor.
The base must be flat and free of grease, otherwise the edges will lift in time. It pays to work in smaller runs and to check as you go whether the planks follow on from each other. The shade can be darkened slightly with a glaze. At the end bring out the edges with a thin line, so that the deck does not merge with the superstructures. Patience pays off above all around the turrets and the anchor equipment on the bow.
