A set of shaped plugs of flexible foam that are inserted into the landing gear bays of the model and close them reliably for as long as it is being sprayed. It is not a kit and not parts of an aircraft — it is a modeling aid, an accessory to a plastic model that has to be bought separately.
A landing gear bay is a deep, irregular cavity. A modeler paints and details it as one of the first things and then has to spray the model from the outside — without masking, the finished interior of the bay would be ruined by overspray. Sticking tape into a deep cavity takes a long time and still does not seal, while cotton crumbles and leaves fibers in the paint. A plug is a shaped part that drops into the bay, seats on its edges and closes it in one go. Once the paint has dried it is simply pulled out. Besides spraying, it also protects the bay during sanding and from dust settling in it during the build.
The plugs are shaped exactly to the bays of the L-39 kit from Trumpeter in 1:48 scale. They will not fit a model from another manufacturer or another scale. So check whose model you are building — the shape and the depth of the bays differ from kit to kit.
The Aero L-39 Albatros is a Czechoslovak jet trainer and one of the most widely used trainers in the world — it served and still serves with dozens of air forces, and many airframes fly in civilian hands. It is a machine with a firm place in collections, and that is exactly why it is worth doing clean work on it even in details such as the landing gear bays.
The plugs are not a kit and not a model. They serve only for masking and are taken out of the model before the final clear coat.
