A scenery vegetation material from the Czech manufacturer Model Scene. It is not a kit — the package contains individual plants on a carrier sheet that are taken out one at a time, shaped and glued into the terrain. The dimensions cover the 1:45 to 1:72 range of scales, so the material serves with larger figures as well as with smaller vehicle models.
Tropical ferns form the lower story in rainforests. They grow densely, the fronds are long and softly drooping, they often overlap and create a continuous screen at knee to waist height. It is precisely this density that makes a jungle a jungle — in a tropical scene bare ground should not show. The fern is combined in it with palm leaves, banana leaves and other large-leaved plants into layered growth.
Plant one plant at a time with tweezers into a drop of cyanoacrylate or PVA glue, ideally in groups and with the fronds overlapping. Tropical growth is built up in layers: first low plants and scatter on the ground, then the fern and finally taller large-leaved plants. Bend the fronds before gluing so that they lean naturally. The damp atmosphere is helped by a richer dark green ground and a discreet gloss only in hollows. In wartime dioramas leave a trodden trail or wheel ruts in the growth — the contrast of crushed and untouched vegetation gives a scene its story.
This is a scenery accessory, not a model kit. The glue, the paints and the substrate material are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
