A tool of the PRO WING line from DSPIAE whose edge is, according to the name, made of tungsten steel. It is used for creating and deepening the grooves that represent the division of panels and the covers on a model.
It is most often reached for after filling. As soon as a joint is sanded down, the original engraving disappears where the work was done and it has to be redrawn, otherwise a conspicuous blank patch stays on the finished piece. The second usual situation is deepening engraving that is too shallow over a whole part, because a light color easily floods a shallow groove and the model then looks flat. The tool also suits places where a division has to be marked out that the maker did not reproduce at all.
It will be appreciated by builders of aircraft and vehicles who want the surface of a model divided as legibly as on the real thing. The color given after the name distinguishes the individual forms within the line, so it will not get lost in the stand. The work calls for calm and light; in a hurry a groove easily wanders and putting it right tends to take a long time. Add plenty of light from the side and the track will be visible while you draw it.
