The second numbered figure of the Laffly Crew group of Dynamo-Models in 1:48 scale. The name defines it as a French figure and with the shortened year refers to 1940. The number serves to tell the figures within the group apart; how the stance differs is shown by the illustration on the packaging.
Laffly was a French maker of trucks and cross-country vehicles whose machines served the French army in 1940 as artillery tractors and reconnaissance vehicles among other things. Crew figures differ from infantry in what they are doing: they handle a load, work the machine or move around it. In a view with a vehicle they therefore read more naturally than figures in a combat stance.
When you join several crew figures in a scene, mix the base shade of the equipment the same for all of them but shade and dust each one differently - one lighter, the other earthier. The group then looks like people at one vehicle, not like a row of castings. Keep the leather items in a darker brown tone and the faces on a shared skin base with the shading led differently. In 1:48 it is contrast that counts, not the number of shades. Finally dust the shoes and the lower trouser legs with pigment in the color of the terrain, so that the figures visually join the base, and even the whole thing out with matte varnish. Adapt the preparation of the surface to the material of the particular casting.
