The Fairchild Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II is an American attack aircraft meant for close support of ground troops. The design grew around a seven-barrel 30 millimeter rotary cannon that takes up a substantial part of the nose; the rest of the aircraft is put together so as to survive a hit. The pilot sits in an armored bathtub, the pair of engines is set high on the sides of the rear fuselage out of reach of fire from below and the tail is twin. The A-10C version is an upgraded form with a digital cockpit and the ability to carry precision-guided armament, so it differs from the original A-10A mainly in its equipment.
This is an add-on set for a finished kit. The replacement parts are meant to take the place of the corresponding parts of the model and to refine their shape. What exactly the package holds and which kit the set is cut for is given in the manufacturer's instructions.
Cut the excess material off with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the remainder down. Wash and degrease the parts before painting. First try dry how much plastic has to be taken off the kit, and only then cut; small replacement parts tend to be hard and brittle at once, so it is better to sand a little at a time. An attack aircraft is rewarding in terms of wear: a grimy area around the cannon muzzle and scuffed places on the leading edges will do more for a model than the most accurate part left in the base shade.
For modelers who build the A-10 in 1:48 scale and want to take a model beyond the level of an ordinary kit. A model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
