A replacement air conditioning unit air intake for a model of the A-10A or A-10C Thunderbolt II ground-attack aircraft in 1:48 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The A-10 Thunderbolt II is an American ground-attack aircraft meant for close support of ground forces. It is built for low speed, long loiter over the battlefield and resistance to hits, which is matched by its angular, technical look. The A-10C version is a later modernization of the original A-10A. This set is intended for both.
The air intake of the air conditioning unit, ECU for short, is a small feature on the real aircraft but a clearly visible one on a model. In injected plastic it tends to be simplified for technical reasons: the walls are thicker than the scale would call for and the opening is only suggested. The replacement part refines the shape and leaves the intake open, so that after spraying it does not look like a blind recess. It is one of those small things you see on a finished model every time you pick it up.
The part is not made of polystyrene, so it is bonded with cyanoacrylate or two-component glue; cement for plastic models does not hold on it. Cut the excess material off with a sharp blade a little away from the part and carefully sand the rest down so that you do not touch the shape of the intake itself. Clean the corresponding place on the model first and try the part dry, adjusting the fit if needed. Wash and degrease the part before painting, otherwise the paint will not hold. The exact procedure follows the instructions from the manufacturer.
The set suits modelers who want to refine a model in its details without major work on the build. The model, the paints, the glue and any tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
