About product

Douglas A-26C-15 Invader 1:48: a New Ware masking set, color scheme 3, the BASIC level

The sheet contains self-adhesive masks cut from kabuki paper for a model of the twin-engine Douglas Invader in the version with a glazed nose, in 1:48 scale. According to its name the set is prepared for color scheme number 3 and it falls into the entry level of the range, which the manufacturer designates BASIC. The name does not state the exact scope of the sheet, so you will find it on the packaging.

The real subject

The Douglas Invader came about as a fast twin-engine attack aircraft with radial engines and it reached combat only toward the end of the Second World War. The configuration with a glazed nose served for leading group raids, in which the lead machine with a bombardier determined the moment of release for the whole formation. From a building point of view that means one thing only: the model has far more clear areas than the version with a solid nose and masking by hand would take a whole evening.

How to work with the masks

Before you lay a mask down, rid the glazing of grease from fingers, for which a rinse in lukewarm water with a drop of dish soap and letting it air-dry is enough. Then lay the mask down with tweezers, in one movement, without lifting it repeatedly; kabuki paper will stand being lifted and restuck, but with every further sticking it loses adhesion. Spray the paint in thin coats and from the edge of the mask toward the inside of the area, not across it, which markedly reduces the risk of it seeping under. After lifting the masks, go over the frames with a fine polish so that the edge of the paint is not left sharp to the touch.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers who want to save time over an extensive glazed nose.
  • Builders who have settled on the third color scheme.
  • Those who prefer sprayed frames to tracing them with a brush.
  • Collectors of American aircraft of the 1940s in 1:48 scale.

The package contains masks only. The kit, the paints, the glue and the decals are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It is not. This is a standalone masking set for an Invader model in 1:48 scale, which you buy separately.

The set is prepared for scheme number 3. The parts tied to the shape of the glazing are common to that model, but do not expect elements specific to a different scheme on the sheet.

A mask once lifted can be restuck at a pinch, but with every further use it holds worse. For a clean result count on one sticking per model.

Degrease the area, press the mask down around its whole perimeter with a blunt tool once it is stuck, and spray thin coats from the edge toward the inside of the area.
