A self-adhesive Art Scale masking set in 1:48 scale for a model of the Invader in the glass-nosed version. The masks are pre-cut to their final shape and, in the double-sided version, they cover the outer and the inner side of the clear parts. The framing can thus be sprayed from inside in the interior shade and from outside in the covering finish of the airframe, with no brush and no visible strokes. The set is an accessory for a kit; the model, paints and glue are not in the box.
The difference from the single-sided variant
The single-sided set deals only with the outside. This one additionally contains masks for the inner side, which pays off precisely on the glazed nose, which can be seen well into the model and where an untreated transparent frame draws attention at once.
The Douglas Invader was a twin-engine all-metal attack bomber with piston radial engines and tricycle landing gear. The glass-nosed version served for directing the aircraft onto the target in level bombing, while the attack variants had fixed gun armament instead of glazing. The type remained in use long after the Second World War and went through a range of changes of equipment and finish.
Work from the back forward: the inner masks and the interior shade first, and only once dry the outside. Wash the clear part before applying them in lukewarm water with detergent and let it air dry, then do not touch it with your fingers. Seat the masks one at a time with tweezers and press the edges down with a blunt toothpick; an edge that has not been pressed down is the only reason paint runs under. Spray thin coats with a pause between them. Take the masks off shortly after the paint has dried, lift a corner with the tip of a scalpel and pull at an angle along the surface.
The box holds masks only. The kit, paints and glue are not included.
