A pair of farm animals for a diorama in 1:48 scale, a cow with a calf. Animals do the same service in a scene as figures of people: they give it scale and suggest that something is going on. A cow with a calf, moreover, creates a relationship between two characters in the scene, which tends to be the first thing the viewer's eye settles on, and which at the same time best holds the gaze down at ground level, where a diorama has its story.
In a rural scene, on a pasture by a field track, by a farm building or at the edge of a field airfield, where military hardware stood next to ordinary farming. The 1:48 scale matches aircraft and hardware of the same scale, so you can place the figures beside a model without any converting. They also serve well as an accessory for a model railroad layout or a stand-alone display-case scene.
Cut the surplus material away with a sharp blade a little clear of the part and sand the remainder back carefully, so as not to take anything off the shape. Wash and degrease the figures before painting, otherwise the paint will not hold. Choose the glue according to the material of the parts. Paint starting from the base tone of the coat, then work a darker glaze into the recesses and bring the raised places out with a dry brush; leave the hooves, the muzzle and the eyes until last, as they are the smallest areas and matter the most. An animal has to stand on the base on all its hooves: fit them into the terrain and make the joint good with vegetation, otherwise the figure will look as if it is floating.
The set holds the animal figures only. A base, terrain material, paints and glue are not part of it, unless stated otherwise.
