Dead Design 1:48 A5M2b Claude Early is a set of self-adhesive die-cut masks for spraying the glazing of a model of the early production form of the Japanese carrier fighter aircraft in 1:48 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set belongs among modeling accessories; it is not a model in itself. It holds masks die-cut in self-adhesive film to the shape of the parts of a model in 1:48 scale. A modeler sticks them onto the glazing, sprays over them with paint and takes them off once dry. The designation Early refers to the early form of the real subject, which differs from the later one in the shape and extent of the cockpit glazing, so the mask has to match precisely this variant.
The Mitsubishi A5M was a carrier fighter monoplane of the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service introduced in the second half of the 1930s. In its early production form the A5M2b version was distinguished by a closed cockpit canopy; this solution did not prove itself in service and was dropped on the following machines. The airframe stayed simple: an elliptical wing, fixed landing gear with wheel covers and a radial engine. A closed cockpit means more glazed areas and more divided framing, which is slow to mask by hand with tape.
The package holds only the masks. The kit, paints and glue are sold separately.
